Madder roots make a spectacular warm dye with colour ranging from deep reds to orange reds and terrracotta. This scarf's madder dye is a warm rose with orange red highlights and chrysanthemum flowers and sand cherry leaves scattered like confetti.
These scarves are 100% Habotai silk, 22" x 72" (56x182 cm) unless noted otherwise. Colours are from natural dyes I make in my studio in Hamilton, primarily from local plants. The images on the scarves are from plants, leaves and berries I forage locally. Colours in the scarves reflect the seasons and the abundance of pigments in the leaves or flowers. Dyeing scarves this way is a slow process and reflects how dyes have been made for centuries. It is ecological and tied to location. Each scarf is one of a kind so please be careful in referencing the scarf you would like to purchase.
